The Mechanics of Unveiling
For the Western religious mind, Atonement is a legal payment to a wronged Judge, and Eschatology is a scheduled, impending apocalypse of judgement and fire. The Gospel was another cosmic courtroom drama where we are the by-standers.
“We are all Cain. We all want to kill the thing that reminds us of our own inadequacy. The Gospel is the only story that identifies with the victim rather than the victimizer, thereby ending the cycle of sacrificial violence.”
— Richard Rohr
Genesis 3 and 4 record the birth of the human Ego and Shadow. The shame that drove Adam and Eve into hiding became the seedbed of violence that entered the world through Cain. This “Spirit of Cain” is our psychological habit of achieving peace through the murder of a victim, projecting our internal shadows onto a scapegoat to resolve our own insecurities.
The Cross is the final unmasking of this cycle. By being emptied of self, loving, and being the fulfillment of the Law, Jesus absorbed the world’s violence without retaliation, and Christ broke the mimetic cycle of sacrifice forever, revealing that God is the Giver of light, not shadows. Community, Forgiveness, and Love are metrics of Christian practice, and thus heresy.
In Luke 9:23, the invitation is, “if anyone” would become a disciple of Jesus, to “take up your cross daily” is the formula for the execution of the Ego: the adaptive, protective false self we construct to navigate the world. The cross kills the “Funhouse Self” of sin, fear, hate, addictions, and tribalism, making room for the Imago Dei to emerge.
Change is possible, and spiritual transformation is real. Sanctification is the “slow burn” of becoming holy by becoming whole. God’s instruction to be “Holy” as He is applies to our relationships with self, others, reality, and God. Becoming a whole person is the theological equivalent of Individuation, where we stop projecting our shadows onto our neighbors and take responsibility for our own psychic inheritance. Walking this process out in life is discipleship.
The End of Scapegoats
Atonement: Being One Here & Now
Humanity can be whole. Atonement is the holistic process of restoring relationships, from Earth to Heaven, through Hell, and across the fractured human condition. Rather than divine bookkeeping, sin is the definitive diagnostic of our addiction to the Scapegoat Mechanism, while atonement is how we become At-One with God, others, and Creation.
“The cross is a mirror held up to the world, reflecting back at it the violence that it normally hides under a cloak of ‘justice’ or ‘necessity.’ In Christ, the victim speaks, and the mechanism of the scapegoat is forever exposed.”
— René Girard
In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul maps a trajectory toward a telos—a gravitational pull toward divine fulfillment, one that must go through Death. Christ’s resurrection initiates this directional process as a Teleological Attractor, drawing people and history forward into their intended wholeness, where Soul, Body, Mind, and Creation are reordered and reconciled.
Revelation is not a futuristic sports almanac about the destruction at the hands of an angry god; it was the pulling back of the veil on historical events around early Christian persecution under Roman rule. Eschatology is the ending of egos, eras, and empires. The “end of an age” is a psychological reality when the false self finally must surrender to the Ultimate Truth.
.
Jesus hints in the Gospels that we’re in a “time of the Gentiles” and that it would eventually end (Luke 21:24). Paul the Apostle later asserts that this era was reaching its fulfillment (telos) (Romans 11:25). The rationale is that there was never a divine dividing line between humanity: no actual pagans, aliens, or out-sider (Galatians 3:28). Those categories were the by-product of arbitrary and egoic imaginations. They are the externalized projections of our deep-seated insecurities.
The Parousia is the inevitable phase transition where the “Kingdom of Self” is dismantled to make room for the Son of Man—the mature, collective human consciousness that rules and reigns in union with God. We are here, a paradigm shift is already underway across the sciences and on the ground level of humanity’s long-neglected spirit. An unbabeling is happening and a Pentecost breaking out underneath the noise of nihilism.
Everyone Has An “End Time”
Eschatology: Facing Our Mortality
The “End of the World” is not a date on a calendar; it is the End of our Ego. Empires end, and both God and Creation continue. Our assumptions and grand plans return to the Source they all came from. We must let go at some point and face the ultimacy of Reality, even with a raised fist. It is a shift in consciousness where the false images of ourselves we were trying to protect finally begin to crumble.
The atonement is not a legal transaction that happens behind God’s back to change His mind about us. It is a transformational act that happens in our front, to change our minds about God and ourselves.”
— Dallas Willard
In the old Adam, the brain is wired for tribalism, fear, and the “Scapegoat Mechanism.” We are physiologically addicted to the dopamine of being “right” and the safety of the “us vs. them” narrative. The Telos Adam represents a neuro-psychological phase transition: where the prefrontal capacity for Love and Integration overrides the amygdala’s drive for shadow-projection. Forgiveness is not a moral suggestion; it is the biological prerequisite for the survival of the species.
To become the Telos Adam is to achieve Freedom from our own Bullshit. It is the state where the Ego no longer sits on the throne of the psyche. By executing the “False Self,” we are no longer slaves to our addictions, our reputations, or our tribal markers. We move from being “Reacting Primates” to Homo Participans—beings who consciously participate in the Divine Nature (2 Peter 1:4).
.
This is the practical fulfillment of the “Son of Man” establishing its Beloved Community. Collective Maturity, the “perfect man” described in Ephesians 4:13, is when the whole world grows up in love. In this state, we finally recognize that “the other” is an extension of the Self. When the “dividing lines” are erased, the energy previously spent on defense and exclusion is liberated for Creativity, Love, and Co-Regulated Peace.
We are the generation tasked with start handing down a new psychic inheritance. Its generational, long work. By doing the hard work of Individuation now, we are rewiring from a Babel of fragmented shadows into a Pentecost of Integrated Spirits. This is the telos of the 5th Act: a humanity that has grown up, stood up, and stepped into the responsibility of ruling and reigning as the image of a non-violent God. Peace on Earth, and Creation redeemed. We still can’t begin to think or imagine what God has in store.
When Humanity Finally Gets Over Its 💩
The Telos Adam: The Emergence of the Reunited Entity
If Adam was the first, and Jesus the Second, then the culmination of the Teleological Attractor is not an escape from the body, but the arrival of the Telos Adam. This is the emergence of a “single and reunited entity”—a humanity that has finally moved past the primitive circuitry of the “Spirit of Cain” and into the neurological and spiritual reality of Resurrection Life.
Comparative Eschatology
While Western systems often treat the “End” as a scheduled chronological event, the mystical tradition views it as an ontological phase transition. The Western eschatological imagination, shaped by figures like Augustine, Anselm, and later Protestant Reformers, is primarily forensic and linear.
Linear Catastrophe vs. Teleological Unveiling
In their view, history is a cosmic courtroom. Atonement is a legal transaction (Penal Substitution) required to appease divine wrath, and Eschatology is the final sentencing.
These frameworks often serve to preserve institutional continuity and communal boundaries by enforcing “right belief” (Orthodoxy) as a condition for surviving the coming judgment. This creates a “Left Behind” psychology—an anxious vigil for external signs, rather than an internal transformation.

Salvation is not ‘getting into heaven.’ It is the process of the ‘Self’ being integrated into the ‘Life of God.’ It is the movement from a fragmented existence to a whole participation in the Divine Nature.”
— C.S. Lewis
