Unmasking Love: Beyond the Facade of Validation

  • unpastor
  • April 12, 2024
Genesis 2:25 tells us humanity was "naked" and "unashamed." That's right before the serpent messed up our narratives. When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they saw themselves differently. Shame showed up, and everything changed. It makes sense, then, that whatever God would do to fix the world would involve dealing with that shame. Shame gets in the way of love for us humans.

Likes Don’t Last: My Social Media Detox and Recovery Back

  • unpastor
  • April 9, 2024
A lot has changed. A lot. My beliefs, personality, practices, habits, etc. A lot has not changed. My beliefs, personality, practices, habits, etc. What had started as a retreat to deal with insecurities became a journey back to find my actual voice and to put out into practice what I only had been working on in "here". Shame was a part of it, again. Fear of disapproval, what people might think of me as compared to who I was, their judgments of my recovery, and harder ones had to be reprocessed.

To Be Our Kids: Facing My Reflections and Shame

  • unpastor
  • April 6, 2024
When we're all born and conceived even, we know nothing but the world we are being brought into. The world already existed. Your terrestrial experience began as a thing that was brought into the world of other humans. You are your parents' child - it's a fact you can never get away from. No matter what I say or think, the role of the parent in my life was the only connection I had in the world I was brought into. It is where your story starts.

Evangelicals’ Trump-Sized Plank – The American Church and Its Republican Gospel

  • unpastor
  • April 3, 2024
Your "god" isn't what you spout - it's your church name, comfort, and control. Your Jesus is Pilate and Nebuchadnezzar - You chose Barrabas and killed God. You ignore the prophetic warnings from God to His people about this that are for you so you can preach what you want to others. Hypocrisy, one-sided expectations, and an ornate and intricate manmade system have replaced Jesus' Gospel. Your systematic theologies are born from men and what is on God's mind. You force right answers into wrong questions. You are the abuser and the people abused. You're Trump expecting God to be chill with you putting words in His mouth. He isn't. Trump will fall, just like Nero.

What “is Finished?” – A Look Beyond the Traditional Interpretation

  • unpastor
  • March 31, 2024
What if We've Been Preaching "It is Finished" Wrong? Here is a thought: Jesus' last statement is more about what is already in the Gospel of John than it is what our 2000 years of theologizing over 3 words.

A Reluctant Journal Convert: An Unexpected Gift

  • unpastor
  • March 28, 2024
The act of translating thoughts into written words is a surprisingly mindful process. It forces me to choose language, consider structure, and reflect on my handwriting. Seeing my thoughts laid bare is a powerful tool for self-discovery. Sometimes, rereading entries reveals inaccuracies or forgotten details. Journaling helps me adjust my thinking patterns and develop healthier self-talk.

Voices in My Head – Learning to Talk to Myself

  • unpastor
  • March 27, 2024
"What do you feel when you're talking to yourself?", they answered without hesitation "Guilt." That guilt and shame about talking to ourselves actually keep us in the same patterns and thinking the same thoughts that produce the behavior that produces the life we wish would be different than it was. And I am so good at it.

Don’t let your left hand know – Beyond Show

  • unpastor
  • March 27, 2024
Do your deeds secretly, say your prayers in secret, and fast in secret. Ensure that you take steps so your intent doesn't become something else. I pray for things or might do a good thing but the intent behind it was selfish, for my security and significance. When I mix up the purpose of prayer, giving, or fasting, I'm turning it into an echo chamber of self-worship. I can't see anything else but me in everything else. So, make sure I take steps so other people won't know.

Getting Out & In A Church I Don’t Believe In

  • unpastor
  • March 26, 2024
I was not where I thought I should be for the journey I was on – things had to change again. One of the areas in the category of "Things That Have To Change" was my public posture and putting my voice back out there, taking risks, more relationships, and doing some of the things I love to do but don't have an outlet for, Drunk Pastor being a part of that. Going to churches and figuring out how to engage with people on spiritual and theological matters again is another part of it.
