The work of creating an image of myself who already exists, the work of trying to push that up and out while keeping the real me hidden and safe inside, and the work of dealing with communication breakdowns so I can filter Reality for the sake of my Ego is exhausting and unsustainable. From Genesis 1-3 through the Gospels and to Revelation, Ego is humanity’s issue. Jesus's Gospel was clearly an invitation to kill our egos and do the opposite—love.

Now "Just don't lie" is about me not lying to myself and accepting reality as it is. It's been getting down to levels of not letting myself be distracted or hide behind convenient circumstances. It's also helped me talk about the good side, the good in reality, and me. It's not like any of us are entirely bad or even mostly. I can fixate and inflate my insecurities and ego quickly beyond what is real. The inverse is also true—I can avoid and minimize my insecurities so they disappear from notice. "Just Don't Lie" is about being as I am right now and allowing reality to be as it is.
Let’s Talk Faith: Living Beyond Church Compliance
Faith is not an acknowledgment of truth or trusting in an eternal destination. It's much simpler. Faith is about this world and now. It's the story you decide to write. It's holding to a narrative and acting in such a way as if it were already true. Faith is messy because it head-on crashes into our current narrative. It’s choosing to let go of the ego, reacting differently, and living faithfully in daily moments. As Ted Lasso says, 'Belief doesn’t happen just because you put it on a wall.' Faith is about living in love and goodness, committing to a way of life that changes the narrative for ourselves and those around us.

Love is greater than faith. In the Christian realm of systematic theology, this could shake people to their existential core. Paul had no problem voicing Love matters more in every way that matters than Faith. It's the same thing he said in the opening verses: if you have faith but not love, you're nothing and gain nothing. James' stance on good work equaling faith is basically the same concept: real faith produces good works (all examples "loving" people) or else that faith is dead.

Being "true" is a whole different thing than just speaking truthfully. We can choose what we will be truthful about and ignore the rest. We can defend and justify ourselves almost without ever a thought. Speaking truthfully is hard without letting our twisted perceptions mess with our words. Speaking truthfully in love feels sometimes humanly impossible. Being true in love…well, ok...that is not just a check box or a step - it's an ideal and a complete way of living and thinking.
Trying Writing Right This Time
What's changed is me, finally. I'm not done yet, but there's been an embarrassing amount of issues, from minor to deep hidden, that just aren't the same anymore. When I finally learn something, I tend to learn it. It's all or nothing with me often. The writing was held back before by too many insecurities and dysfunctions. I am ready for something different. It's arrived, and now I feel like I've bitten off more than I can chew.
