Biblical And Theological

64 posts

Let’s get into the meat of it—where faith, scripture, and theology meet real life. This is where we explore the Bible in ways that are raw, challenging, and far from tidy. Expect questions that don’t come with easy answers and theology that wrestles with both the head and the heart. If you’re tired of cookie-cutter sermons and want to dig deeper into what faith looks like in the trenches, you’re in the right place.

We Could Be AntiChrist: The Real Antichrists in John’s Epistles

  • unpastor
  • May 24, 2024
Let's consider how our fascination with finding antichrists assumes that we aren't one. Christianity has been around now for 2000 years - that's a lot of generations of humans. What if we have been in the church and in the gospel of an antichrist the whole time? What if we are "the antichrist"? What if we've been looking at the Gospel wrong all along? The Gospel then might seem, to us antichrists, as a wrong gospel.

A Tale of Two Paths: Blessing and Curse in Genesis

  • unpastor
  • May 20, 2024
The book of Genesis opens with a beautiful image: God creating the world, declaring it "good," and showering it with blessings. But beneath the surface of this paradise lurks another theme: the curse. From the moment Adam and Eve's eyes are opened, humanity's relationship with both blessing and curse unfolds. It keeps playing through out Genesis until chapter 50.

Faith Doesn’t Matter: The Implications of 1 Corinthians 13

  • unpastor
  • May 15, 2024
Love is greater than faith. In the Christian realm of systematic theology, this could shake people to their existential core. Paul had no problem voicing Love matters more in every way that matters than Faith. It's the same thing he said in the opening verses: if you have faith but not love, you're nothing and gain nothing. James' stance on good work equaling faith is basically the same concept: real faith produces good works (all examples "loving" people) or else that faith is dead.

Living Truth in Love: A Radical Call From Ephesians 4

  • unpastor
  • May 1, 2024
Being "true" is a whole different thing than just speaking truthfully. We can choose what we will be truthful about and ignore the rest. We can defend and justify ourselves almost without ever a thought. Speaking truthfully is hard without letting our twisted perceptions mess with our words. Speaking truthfully in love feels sometimes humanly impossible. Being true in love…well, ok...that is not just a check box or a step - it's an ideal and a complete way of living and thinking.

Good & Bad Figs: Is Our Faith Rotten?

  • unpastor
  • April 26, 2024
God seems a lot less concerned with a nation's status and reputation in the world than we are. God doesn't see nations as set realities. They, like clouds, exist from the ones before and will be recycled. Nations come and go but God wants the heart of people. Later, He would intentionally drive Nebuchadnezzar crazy just to teach him that human kingdoms are delusional. The Apostles still thought Jesus was going to "restore the kingdom to Israel" (Acts 1:6) after his resurrection. God has been up to something much bigger for a lot longer. His actual Kingdom is "not of this world" (John 17:16).

Unmasking Love: Beyond the Facade of Validation

  • unpastor
  • April 12, 2024
Genesis 2:25 tells us humanity was "naked" and "unashamed." That's right before the serpent messed up our narratives. When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they saw themselves differently. Shame showed up, and everything changed. It makes sense, then, that whatever God would do to fix the world would involve dealing with that shame. Shame gets in the way of love for us humans.

What “is Finished?” – A Look Beyond the Traditional Interpretation

  • unpastor
  • March 31, 2024
What if We've Been Preaching "It is Finished" Wrong? Here is a thought: Jesus' last statement is more about what is already in the Gospel of John than it is what our 2000 years of theologizing over 3 words.

Don’t let your left hand know – Beyond Show

Do your deeds secretly, say your prayers in secret, and fast in secret. Ensure that you take steps so your intent doesn't become something else. I pray for things or might do a good thing but the intent behind it was selfish, for my security and significance. When I mix up the purpose of prayer, giving, or fasting, I'm turning it into an echo chamber of self-worship. I can't see anything else but me in everything else. So, make sure I take steps so other people won't know.

Shrewd as Serpents…learning to be innocent

  • unpastor
  • March 6, 2024
Jesus was, in essence, teaching his apostles to be like "that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world" (Revelation 12:9). The catch is that we have to be that while being "innocent as doves."
