The Good Socialist

And behold, a Bible professor stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, how does someone get eternal life?”

Jesus said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”

And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

And Jesus said to the professor, “You have answered correctly; do that, and you will live.”

But the politician, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Jesus replied;

“A man was on going home from the Capital in Tallahassee. On the way home, he was robbed by a group of guys who stripped and beat him, and left him half dead alone on the side of an alley. Now by chance, a Republican walked by, and when he saw him, he passed on the other side of the alley. So likewise, a Christian passed on the other side when he came to the spot and saw him. But a socialist lesbian, as she was walking home, came to where the man was, and when she saw him, she had compassion.

She stopped, approached him, called 911, and applied first aid. She stayed with him through the ambulance and the hospital room. And the next day, she took out four hundred dollars and gave it to the nurse, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever he needs when he wakes up, I’ll help with when I come back to check on him.’

Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”

The Bible professor said, “The one who showed him mercy.”

And Jesus said to him, “You go and act the same way.”
